Cluster Office

The Cluster pursues scientific goals that require the joint efforts of all participating scientists. To enable researchers to concentrate on their scientific work, organizational matters are managed by the Cluster Office, jointly operated by Heidelberg University and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). The Cluster Office focuses on the tasks outlined below:

Cluster Management

  • Coordination and controlling of processes
  • Coordination of Coordinating and Excecutive Board and meetings
  • Coordination of Advisory Boards and international cooperation partners
  • Project and budget planning preparation
  • Controlling and reporting of funds
  • Facilitation of networking between all members across locations and Research Areas

HEiKA Graduate School

  • Graduate School admissions
  • Support for all Graduate School members
  • Coordination of the Young Scientists’ training program (Scientific and Management Modules) and networking measures
  • Development and expansion of the training program together with Young Researcher Representatives and Graduate School Committee
  • Support of research-oriented, English-taught M.Sc. programs (Materials Science and Engineering at KIT, Molecular Systems Science and Engineering at Heidelberg University)

Research Data and Software Management

  • Involvement of Research Data and Software Management Committee

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion

  • Promotion of gender equality and equal opportunities at all career levels
  • Mentoring, coaching, and networking measures for underrepresented groups
  • Support for family-friendly working conditions
  • Outreach activities for high-school students
  • Tracking of numbers and measures
  • Involvement of Diversity Commissioner

Science Communication

  • Yearly organization of the scientific Gordon-like conference "Future 3D Additive Manufacturing"
  • Science Communication Trainings for Young Researchers
  • International visibility especially through
  • a broad social media presence with the goal of reaching all relevant target groups of the Cluster
  • video formats, e.g., Women in Science and Explain Like I´m 5
  • organization of events to transfer research to society and to facilitate interaction with young talent
