Principal Investigator Christopher Barner-Kowollik was awarded the David Craig Medal of the Australian Academy of Science as well as the HG Smith Medal of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute for his outstanding research on light as a “molecular surgical tool” for soft matter materials. His work fuses the in-depth understanding of chemical processes that are induced by light with their use to prepare soft matter materials, with applications from 3D printing inks to photodynamic materials. His research at QUT and KIT has enabled new material concepts, for example a dynamic material that is solely stabilised by light, and led to key advances in photochemistry.
